To get lower car insurance premiums, a device could be installed in your car to monitor your driving habits and check if you are a safe driver. If results show that you are a safe driver, then you will be given discounts on your car insurance premiums. The California Senate Appropriations Committee recently passed Assembly Bill 2800, which allows insurance providers to base premiums on mileage information of the applicants. Many however, are concerned about the possible loss of privacy it would entail. Motorists will be obligated to choose either lower insurance premiums or losing their privacy. The Insurance Commissioner suggested a plan with three choices for reporting mileage: with electronic monitoring of mileage; submission of maintenance records; or periodic checks of odometers by employees of the insurance company .
