In Connecticut at lunchtime last April 10, more than 40 tow trucks and other vehicles drove around the State Capitol, blaring their horns in protest against auto insurer’s steering of customers toward their insurance company’s preferred body shops. It is lead by Auto Body Association of Connecticut. This association is supporting a bill that would prohibit an auto insurer for requiring or recommending a preferred body shop to a customer. It also requires insurers to pay for repairs at usual rates. This is to preserve consumer choice and industry competition, and discouraging abrasive relationships between insurers and repairers.
